Police Department

The Newport Police Department provides 24-hour police service to the citizens of Newport and visitors. The officers are first responders to all police emergencies and are responsible for patrol, traffic enforcement, accident investigations and criminal investigations in Newport.

Newport’s officers participate in the 78-member New Castle County Checkpoint Strikeforce, a team of NITSA-certified officers who combat impaired driving in Delaware. Since its inception in 2003, the Strikeforce has been headed by Newport Police Chief Michael J. Capriglione.

The department also offers a “vacation house check” program for Newport homeowners and conducts public safety programs throughout the year.

To better serve the citizens of Newport, the police department is dispatched through the 911 Center. To report a crime or request police response, call 911. For non-emergent messages or to contact an officer directly, call (302) 995-1411 and leave a voicemail message.
