Election

According to the town’s charter, there shall be a municipal election held within the town limits on the first Monday in April each and every year. At least 20 days prior to an election, notice of said election shall be given, together with the officers to be elected.

Filing for the Office of Commissioner shall be by Candidate Filing Form (linked below) and there shall be no party designation on any such letter beside the name of any candidate or on any ballot in any municipal election.

All persons desiring to be candidates shall file the Candidate Filing Form (linked below) to the Town Manager of the Town of Newport during normal business hours not later than thirty days before the election.  All candidates will be required to have a Personal Background Check completed at the candidate’s expense.  The background check should be requested through www.identogo.com to make an appointment.  If the candidate is elected and has a clear background check, the fee will be reimbursed up to $75.00.

Effective for the 2025 election and forward, we will use the Delaware state voter rolls.  If you are registered to vote in Delaware, you will be able to vote in town elections.
